Set over the course of one day, Aminah Mae Safi's This Is All Your Fault is a smart and voice-driven YA novel that follows three young women determined to save their indie bookstore.
Rinn Olivera is finally going to tell her longtime crush AJ that she’s in love with him.
Daniella Korres writes poetry for her own account, but nobody knows it’s her.
Imogen Azar is just trying to make it through the day.
When Rinn, Daniella, and Imogen clock into work at Wild Nights Bookstore on the first day of summer, they’re expecting the hours to drift by the way they always do. Instead, they have to deal with the news that the bookstore is closing. Before the day is out, there’ll be shaved heads, a diva author, and a very large shipment of Air Jordans to contend with.
And it will take all three of them working together if they have any chance to save Wild Nights Bookstore."
If Rinn, Daniella, and Imogen were to hang out with characters from other YA books, who would they be and why?
You know, I would love to see them meet the Ace Gang from the Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison. I love the idea of how different all of these girls are but in the end, they are united by a love of hijinks and an ability to be deeply themselves even in times of great crises.
But then again, I’d love to see them run into an older version of all the girls in the Baby-Sitters Club. Perhaps that entrepreneurial spirit that runs through all of those girls would have them swapping stories about starting a business and keeping it running and finding out how to drive word of mouth business.
They would do well, too, to meet the March sisters from Little Women for nobody squabbles like the March sisters. Except, perhaps, for Rinn and Imogen and Daniella.
I feel lucky that there have been so many formidable groups of young women throughout fiction for my girls to meet. I have never been all that great at writing fan fiction, though I’ve been a reader of the stuff for many years, but I can say that when firecrackers meet, that sparks are inevitable to fly.
And perhaps that’s why I wrote a book about three girls who were so desperate to save a bookstore, that they finally let down their barriers and barricades and walls and do something extraordinary— they let each other in.
coming soon!
