Arden sells memories. Whether it’s the becoming homecoming queen or studying for that all important test, Arden can hack into a classmate’s memories and upload the experience for you just as if you’d lived it yourself. Business is great, right up until the day Arden whites out, losing 15 minutes of her life and all her memories of the hot boy across the school yard. The hot boy her friends assure her she’s had a crush on for years.
Arden realizes that her own memories have been hacked, but they haven’t just been stolen and shared… they’ve been deleted. And she’s not the only one, the hot stranger, Sebastian, has lost ALL of his memories. But how can they find someone with the power to make them forget everything they’ve learned?
What would you do if you spent the day with Arden? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?
If I spent the day with Arden, I’d want her to take me to her school and show me around. Arden goes to a school for science geniuses where the bottom floor houses the elite school and the upper floors of the building is home to Varga Industries, a technology company that would put Apple to shame with its cutting edge inventions. At the school, I’d love for Arden to show me around the state of the art labs that range from a tissues culture lab to a regular chemistry lab where shelves are stocked with every chemical known to man (and some that aren’t known to every man yet). I’d love to eat in the cafeteria where some students experiment in molecular gastronomy and serve decadent meals worthy of 5 star Michelin awards. I’d especially like to tour the basement, which requires retina scanner access and contains a lot of locked, secret doors.
Once we’ve toured the school, we’d take a trip up to Varga Industries and visit the individual companies that live under the Varga umbrella where inventions are honed and manufactured. I’d try on holographic makeup, upload my memories to HiveMind which stores memories in a cloud-like system, possibly get a LASIK procedure to change my eye color from brown to blue, and of course print some body parts in the 3D bio lab.
Once we’ve visited the school, we’d stop at Arden’s house for a delicious home cooked bowl of chili by Arden’s mom, even though she probably doesn’t have time to cook while also running the school and Varga Industries. We’d stop at the dorm afterward to say hi to Zoey and all the other students that live in compass and maybe catch some gossip in the halls as well. We might also visit Teddy and Sebastian playing video games instead of studying.
And of course, we must fit in a trip to The Hypnotist. The only true way to catalogue memories before HiveMind is to use hypnosis to try to recall them. The two of us will lie flat on mats while The Hypnotist lulls us into deep sleeps in order to pull on the strings of a long forgotten memory. It’ll be both scary and exhilarating and completely worth the exorbitant fee he charges.
Lastly, we’d end the night the way Arden usually does: by sneaking back into school after hours to use the equipment for her own purposes.
