The history books say I died.
They don’t know the half of it.
Anastasia “Nastya” Romanov was given a single mission: to smuggle an ancient spell into her suitcase on her way to exile in Siberia. It might be her family’s only salvation. But the leader of the Bolshevik army is after them . . . and he’s hunted Romanov before.
Nastya’s only chances of survival are to either release the spell, and deal with the consequences, or enlist help from Zash, the handsome soldier who doesn’t act like the average Bolshevik. Nastya’s never dabbled in magic before, but it doesn’t frighten her as much as her growing attraction for Zash. She likes him. She thinks he might even like her . . .
That is, until she’s on one side of a firing squad . . . and he’s on the other.
Review
My Favorite Part
The best parts of Romanov were the characters and the worldbuilding, with the plot coming in at a close third (second? I never know how the counting is supposed to go when you have a tie) and I LOVED IT!!! Seriously, this was such a FANTASTIC book and I’m so happy everyone can go read it now! Nastya, Alexei, Zash, Ivan, and Maria were all wonderful. I even enjoyed the romances! (*gasp*)
My Least Favorite Part
I … didn’t particularly like Nastya’s nickname? So everytime I read it I read it as Anastasia instead. Oops. Also, Once Upon a December has been stuck in my head for almost a week at this point.

Judging a Book by its Cover
LOOK AT HOW PERFECT THIS COVER IS!!! You can see the stark contrast between the colors, the swirls make me think of magic (I don’t know why, they just do), and you can even see the Matryoshka doll!! So I just really love this cover. 9.5/10 stars!
If You Liked…
The movie or Broadway show Anastasia, because of, well, Anastasia…
My Lady Jane, for its alternate magical history and loveable main character…
Wicked Saints, with all of the Russian inspired magic…
Then you will LOVE Romanov!

Let’s Discuss
What did you think of how Nastya, Alexei, and Zash survived? I thought it was SO COOL because there it was, with enough foreshadowing for me to be able to figure it out, and I was still SO SURPRISED when it happened!
