A Queen raised in the shadows, and a Fraud Prince who needs her help.
The sole heir to the kingdom is destined to sleep for a hundred years. To hide this liability, the queen left her cursed daughter in the care of a trusted lord, while taking his son as her own. Rowan grew up hating the boy who had her crown and vowed to one day reclaim her place as queen.
But when a neighboring king threatens a war they won’t survive, Rowan must work with the fraud prince to save Elenvérs. She pledges herself as his spy in the enemy court and lives in the heart of danger. If she can’t save her kingdom before the curse hits, there may be nothing left to wake up to.

What would you do if you spent the day with Rowan? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?

She’d drag me out of bed early to go train in the arena, but she’d feed me lots of chocolate pudding so I’d be fine.

If Rowen were to hang out with characters from other books, who would they be and why?

Definitely Eelyn from Sky in the Deep. They are both savage.

If there was one fictional place you could travel to for a day, where would it be and why?

I’m really into Vikings recently (my next book maybe?) so I’d like to go there and see how they lived.

If you buried a time capsule with three items inside, what three items would you choose and why?

My chocolate mocha coffee grounds that I’m currently obsessed with, my laptop because it’s old so I need a new one anyway, and my favorite books (the Six of Crows duology.)

What was your favorite bit of research you ended up not using?

I learned a lot about what kinds of food they’d eat in cold places!

What is your favorite quote, scene, or moment from The Winter Charlatan?

“The sparks of war were lit, and they wouldn’t stop until they’d burned a kingdom to the ground.”

Also, it has spoilers so I can’t say much but there is a scene near the end where she thinks someone is talking about her, but then someone else steps out and says “Not you. Me.” And the jaws drop and it just kills me.

About Victoria McCombs

Some of the things I love most in this world are peppermint hot chocolate, peanut butter ice cream, golfing dates, Jesus, and game nights with family. And of course, books.

Fairytales were my first love. I became obsessed with the idea that if one was brave enough, they could defeat dragons, and that true love was real. I met my true love in college, and together we raise our two boys. I have my dad to thank for teaching me to love writing, and my mom to thank for allowing us to keep a wall of medieval weapons in the house, which curated my love for that time period.

My dream is to write vivid worlds and charming characters that will leave an imprint on my reader’s hearts, the way that so many books have done for me.

What do you think about The Winter Charlatan? Have you added it to your tbr yet? Let me know in the comments and have a splendiferous day!
