If you could trade lives with any book character for a day, who would it be and why? What about a week? A month, year, or forever?

I would love to feel like I was an untouchable badass for just one day, so sign me up to be Manon Blackbeak from the Throne of Glass series. I’d love to go back to my life after that, though, because I’d miss, ya know, my family. And Netflix.

What would you do if you spent the day with Charlotte? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?

I actually based Charlotte’s love of the Getty Villa off of my own. It is one of my absolute favorite places in the world. I think we’d hang out there. We’d get some coffee from the stand and some pizza from the little cafe and wander around the huge villa, marveling at ancient statues and artifacts.

If Charlotte were to hang out with characters from other books, who would they be and why?

I think Charlotte and Gemma Doyle from A Great and Terrible Beauty would get along really well. Gemma and Co. are just a bunch of girls trying to sort out an impossible situation with deadly stakes, and I think Charlotte could relate.

What was your favorite bit of research you ended up not using?

I have SO much in my head about the history of piracy. Like… SO MUCH. Anne de Graaf is one of several badass ladies from all over the world that made a name for themselves. I couldn’t write about them all, but now they live in my head rent-free and I am not mad about it at all.

What is your favorite quote, scene, or moment from Unchosen?

The end. I won’t say more because *spoilers*, but… the end.

Were there alternate endings you considered, or did you always know where the story was headed?

I had different ways I thought about getting to that moment, but I always knew it would end the way it does.

I live in LA, drink way too much coffee, and write all day long — because I’m crazy blessed to do what I’ve been doing for fun since I was a kid hiding in my garage loft writing terrible, terrible vampire stories. I’m wife to Ross and mom to Aryn, Liam, and River Grace. Also, mom to Cricket (a dog, not an insect), Maximus Dogimus Meridius (a ferocious cuddlebug) Maggie Rhee (cat, not the bad ass from The Walking Dead), and Kovacs (no parenthetical needed for him).
